Jan 22, 2009 This is a play-through of the Graveyard level in Freeplay mode. The video shows an expert player achieving a silver medal in a relatively short time; something a novice may not manage so quickly. A cursory look at Burn, Zombie, Burn! Would probably lead one to assume it's yet another twin stick shooter, something the PSN isn't exactly short on, but the truth is that the right analog stick isn't really touched. This means you'll essentially shoot where your lead character (a sort of stylized, square-jawed Ash-like zombie-offer named.
Who doesn’t love a good zombie game or movie these days? Thanks in large part to the incredible remake of Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later, the zombie genre has made a comeback. Video games have benefited as a result of that comeback.
Burn Zombie Burn is the latest zombie themed game and it is only available on the Playstation Network. The game was developed by Double Six as part of Sony’s small developer initiative, which is designed to give smaller development houses a shot at seeing a mass release of their games. As a result Burn Zombie Burn is a fun arcade style action game that will remind people of the classic hit, Smash TV, mixed with the movie Evil Dead.Burn Zombie Burn is a budget priced download only game.
Whenever this is the case you shouldn’t go into the game expecting Metal Gear Solid 4 quality graphics. Instead the developers have created a very colorful and cartoon like game. The game is presented in a top down manner just like Smash TV.
Each level is fairly small in order to create a tight and tense atmosphere for the zombies to chase you around in.The main character is named Bruce and not surprisingly he looks like a young animated version of Bruce Campbell. There are a wide variety of zombies to wade your way through and it’s typical to have upwards of 100 zombies on the screen all at the same time. With all of this action going on the game never slows down. It’s also worth mentioning that many of the zombies are comical in nature, some are wearing tutus and twirl around, others are football players, there are even huge hulking beast zombies. The overall look and feel of the game has a 1950’s or 60’s horror movie vibe to it. The zombies are primarily comical looking and never scary and the characters and set pieces all have an innocent 1950’s American teenager feel to them. The music carries over the visual’s 1950’s camp theme. The music is actually quite catchy and it uses that spooky, Scooby Do like, instrumental sound to convey the mood of the game. There is very limited voice work in the game, which is almost all accomplished through one liners thrown out by the main character.
The lines are meant to be funny and are usually pretty fitting to the action on the screen. Overall the sound works very well with the theme of the game. The invention of dual analog sticks for home consoles means that arcade games like Smash TV can accurately be ported to home consoles with the controls intact. Burn Zombie Burn controls very much like the arcade version of Smash TV. You use the left analog stick to move your character around the level and the right analog stick is used to aim your weapon. In an odd design decision the game requires you to hold the L1 button in order to freely aim where ever you want while moving.
If you don’t hold down the L1 button then your character will look where ever he is moving to. Holding the L1 button seems like a wasted step, but it isn’t a huge problem. The rest of the controls work great and shouldn’t be a problem for most gamers. The point of Burn Zombie Burn is to keep your character, Bruce, alive while wave after wave of zombies try to kill him. Each wave becomes increasingly more difficult and theoretically the levels won’t end until Bruce loses all of his lives. Bruce has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, including Uzis, shotguns, hand guns, lawnmowers, flamethrowers, machine guns, baseball bats, TNT and more. Most of the weapons are limited in the amount of ammo they have and Bruce must pick up another weapon when his current one goes dry. The weaponry in this game really adds a lot to the game’s charm.
Not enough can be said about literally mowing down a pack of zombies with a lawnmower, or using a dancing ray gun to make the zombies stop and do the Thriller dance.Burn Zombie Burns offers only six levels, but there are four different game modes that change the way each level is played. The primary game mode is called survival, this mode simply requires Bruce to survive as long as he can. The point of this mode is to rack up the highest score possible in order to unlock the next stage. One key theme of the game and this mode is that zombies that are on fire are worth more points. So players must first set zombies on fire, which in turns sets almost anything they touch on fire, and then you have to kill them.

The danger is that if you set too many of them on fire the entire zombie horde will go up in flames. So now on top of a zombie horde chasing you, they are also on fire and can do more damage to you.Other modes include Defense, in which Bruce must protect his girlfriend Daisy from the zombie horde. Daisy doesn’t move or protect herself in any way.
The longer you protect her the higher your score. There is also Time mode where players are given a clock and they have to burn zombies and kill them in order to add time to the clock. When the clock runs out the game is over. The final mode is challenge mode. There are ten challenges in all and players are given a listed objective and must try to complete it in order to advance to the next challenge. On its face Burn Zombie Burn is not a hard game, players need to obtain a bronze score in each level to unlock that gameplay mode in the next level.
However, obtaining the higher silver and gold scores can be very difficult and will give gamers a run for their money.Burn Zombie Burn is available for only $9.99. It includes all of the gameplay modes listed above as well as a multiplayer mode and Trophy support. There is a lot of game here for ten bucks. Heck there are even leader boards and high score challenges.Burn Zombie Burn is a very fun arcade style action game. Anyone who enjoyed Smash TV way back in the day will find a lot to like with Burn Zombie Burn.
For its cheap price of admission there are a lot of game modes and challenges to conquer. Fans of the zombie genre or even Bruce Campbell will definitely get a kick out of the main character and his desire to kill as many zombies as he can. It’s hard not to recommend this one to anyone who likes retro style arcade games or zombies.
